Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month in 2020
Every year, from September 15 through October 15, Americans can thoughtfully honor, celebrate, and thank Hispanic Americans for their many contributions to the country and culture. But this year, in the midst of a global pandemic and a relentless news cycle, Hispanic Heritage Month 2020 takes on a whole new meaning.
One important, but meaningful way to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, given the pandemic and everything else that’s going on, is to support Latino-owned businesses. Ordering from your favorite local-owned Hispanic restaurant, opening a dialog with the Hispanic community in your social platform, educating yourself about our history and struggles, anything that relates to the Hispanic culture or heritage in a respectful way is an appropriate way to celebrate.
Here at PostingBee, it is especially important to highlight and amplify Latino-owned businesses as our way to celebrate this month. For that reason, we asked local Latina businesswomen how they are managing to survive and thrive during these unprecedented times.
Lizi Oceransky, M.A. in Counseling, Certified Professional Coach, Certified Daring Way™, Rising Strong™ and Dare to Lead™ Facilitator, all based on the research of Dr. Brené Brown:
“For over 20 years, I have been working with a very diverse population on topics related to life transitions, emotional intelligence, communication, empowerment and diversity and inclusion. I offer one on one sessions as well as workshops across the globe supporting women and men to live their best, most authentic and brave lives.
After seeing the impact that these conversations have on people's lives, I have decided to devote my work on spreading courage, acceptance of self and others, empathy and connection - as my life mission.
A few of my clients have lost their jobs and they ended their coaching process due to the change in their ability to pay. This opened up time for me to be able to volunteer with a few organizations that provide with services to people impacted by COVID (either losing their job or working on the front lines).
Since COVID my full coaching practice has moved online, which has allowed me not only to keep my existing, but also to expand to other continents. I’ve facilitated workshops in Mexico, Israel, Spain and Singapore.”

Arlene Soto is the owner and designer at Intricate Designs:
“My name is Arlene, I’m the owner and creative director of Intricate Designs, a budding graphic and web design business! I have an extensive background in fine art and design, I have a BFA in Interior Design, and the decision to homeschool our 3 kids set me along the path to start working from home. My business started partially by accident as I started helping out a few friends with their logos and websites and gradually that turned into what Intricate Designs is today.
I’m a branding and web design specialist and I help other small businesses reach their full potential with beautiful, functional visuals. I strive to design and develop strategy-based designs that encompass the heart and soul of each brand. I’m also an illustrator and have a few children’s books underway. During all the ups and downs that 2020 has brought us, I have been able to continue working and have been busier than ever helping new startups and existing businesses transition and establish their online presence.”

Marta Empowerment Coach and Speaker at Marta Spirk Coaching:
“I started my business back in 2016 when my triplets were only 9-months-old. I had gone through so many life transitions and while adding something else to my plate seemed crazy, it was just what I needed to create accountability to pour into myself - by helping other women do the same.
My empowerment coaching focuses on teaching women entrepreneurs how to identify and overcome fears and limiting beliefs so they can grow their business.
Before the pandemic, I was relying on monthly in-person events and while that expanded my network a lot, it wasn’t sustainable income. With having the kids home from school and the impossibility of gathering in any venue, I reverted back to building my community online and really focusing on my virtual membership, The Empowered Woman School.
A blessing in disguise, with less time came more productivity. I have now been able to help more people right at a time where business owners need the most support with their emotions and thoughts around the struggles of entrepreneurship. Since the foundation of what I teach is to find silver linings in every situation, I can say I have been practicing what I preach by making the most of such strange times, using my gifts to stay centered and assist others to do the same.”
